All cases will be canceled with repeal of Digital Security Act: Asif Nazrul

Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Asif Nazrul said, with the repeal of the Digital Security Act, all cases will be cancelled. Only computer offences, such as computer hacking, blackmailing with intimate pictures of children — such offenses will continue. But the cases for journalism or free-thinking people, dissenting people's comments will be dismissed face by face.

He said these things at the 'DRU-Desh TV Best Reporting Award-2024' ceremony at Dhaka Club on Friday (November 8) afternoon.

Asif Nazrul said that the current government is trying to be journalist-friendly. No harassing action has been taken against any journalist by our government. No harassment case has been filed by our government or police against any journalist.

He said, everyone should remember that nothing should happen outside of our professional identity. Pointing to a former member of parliament from Cox's Bazar, he said, “Some of you call Badiki a politician, don't you?” Yaba called him a businessman. No matter how much he does politics.

Advising the leadership of true professional journalists, the legal adviser said, a journalist, no matter how much journalism he does, if he continues to publicly support disappearances, extrajudicial killings, illegal elections, looting of Bangladesh, relegation of Bangladesh to neighboring states. Would you call him a journalist if he openly supports a fascist government? Don't say anything else, think about it. He also said that there are many journalists who are not under the fascist government. They were on the path of truth and justice.

Syed Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Desh TV Managing Director Arif Hasan, DRU-Desh TV Best Reporting Award Jury Board Chairman M Shafiqul Karim, DRU General Secretary Mohi Uddin, organizing secretary Khalid Saifullah and others spoke.

Crests, certificates, checks and replicas were distributed among the awardees at the end of the ceremony.
