Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) and (RAB-10) arrested Kazi Nazrul Islam (45), who was sentenced to 15 years rigorous imprisonment in a drug case, in a joint operation.
On Thursday (October 24) afternoon, he was arrested in a raid in Mohakhali area of the capital.
RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Senior ASP Shihab Karim confirmed the matter.
He said, based on secret information, an operation was conducted in Mohakhali area of the capital on Thursday. Kazi Nazrul Islam, a fugitive who was sentenced to 15 years rigorous imprisonment in a drug case, was arrested in the operation.
He also said that the accused Kazi Nazrul Islam was arrested in Airport police station area of Barisal district along with 1500 pieces of Yaba pills in 2017. Later, a drug case was registered against the accused at Barisal Airport Police Station. The accused was sent to court in that case. After being released on bail from the court, the accused ran away from his locality without regular attendance.
On the other hand, at the end of the trial of the case, the court sentenced the accused Kazi Nazrul Islam to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of one lakh taka and issued an arrest warrant for another 2 years. After the issue of the arrest warrant, RAB-2 increased intelligence surveillance aimed at arresting the accused. The accused was arrested in a joint operation. The RAB official said that the accused has been handed over to the police station for further legal action against Islam.
