Talking about the importance of playing red-ball matches at the domestic level, the Tamil Nadu player told the media in the press conference held after the day's play, 'It was a great opportunity for me to play the Tamil Nadu-Delhi match. Because it is good to play with the red ball every time and maintain the rhythm with both bat and ball in red ball cricket. Also maintaining consistency is important. The 25-year-old player said how bowling a lot of overs in Ranji matches was helpful for him. He said, 'It also helped that I got a chance to bowl a lot of overs in that match. I am grateful for that. I don't think I'll ever forget this day, it was very special.

'Keep improving as a cricketer'
Washington said his intention was to improve his skills without conforming to any particular style of all-rounder. According to Sundar, 'One should not think too much about any notion. I just focus on what I can do as a player. Keep improving as a cricketer. Washington has taken 65 wickets in 31 first-class matches in the eight years since his debut. The team already had a spin all-rounder in the form of Axar Patel but the Indian team management gambled on Sundar which worked. This is the first time in the history of the World Test Championship that a bowler has taken 7 wickets in an innings against New Zealand. Earlier, Prabhat Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka had taken 6 wickets for 42 runs against New Zealand this year.
