Not proportional, the election must be according to the constitution of 72: Dr. Zahid Hossain

BNP Standing Committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said that the election should be held according to the constitution of 72, not proportional. He said, 'After the constitution of Bangladesh 71 and 72 till today, he said, the process of constitution-based elections, BNP thinks will continue.'

On Monday (October 21), he said this to reporters while paying respects at the shrine of BNP founder martyred President Ziaur Rahman. This program was organized on the occasion of the return of UK BNP general secretary Kaisar M Ahmed to the country after a long time.

Zahid said, “The second independence, i.e. 5th August, the students-people's uprising, the dictatorship escaped. But the friends of dictatorship are in Bangladesh. They are making various conspiracies to defeat the interim government. They are conspiring so that the rights of the people cannot be realized.

Our leader (Tareq Rahman) said – I was in the movement and I will remain. Because our movement is a movement to restore democracy. By stating this, Bulu said, 'Our movement is a movement to restore democracy, our movement is to demand justice for those who killed in restoring democracy. Our movement is to bring back those who have gone missing.'

Criticizing the demand for proportional elections, he said, 'We want to say clearly, after the constitution of Bangladesh 71 and 72, there is a constitution-based election process till today. The people will decide which one it will be. It cannot be imposed on any person in any way. There is no opportunity to ignore people's views and rights. BNP thinks that the constitution-based election process will continue and the 31 points have given what kind of reforms we want.'

Demanding early elections to the interim government, he said, 'Hand over the power of the people to the people.' In response to journalists' questions, he said, 'India is a free country, will India give its country to be used politically against other countries? I think Indian politicians and government are not that stupid. Those who spread them, maybe to warm the field. In fact, let them enter the field, see if the people accept them? The proof will be in the field, inshallah.'
