Egypt calls on car agents and dealers to restrict import orders by 2025

Hassan Al-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, called on the Automotive and Agents Division in his country to limit their import requests for the year 2025, so that they do not exceed more than 5% of the total cars imported in 2023, which then amounted to about 90 thousand cars, that is, not to exceed 8 thousand cars. Monthly, as revealed to Al-Sharq by two knowledgeable people who attended the meeting, on the condition that their identities not be disclosed.

Al-Sharq published last Sunday that Egypt intends Quota reduces car imports by about 20% Starting this month, the maximum will be 8,000 cars per month instead of 10,000 cars in the previous “quota” that the government set last June, according to a government official who spoke to Al-Sharq on condition of anonymity, attributing the new measure to the government’s attempts to rationalize… Use the dollar and not over-import.

But later on Monday, the Cabinet Information Center reported that “There is no such thing as a car quota“No official decisions or instructions have been issued to set a maximum limit on the import of cars into Egypt.”

What the center said is consistent with the response of Al-Shahat Ghatouri, head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, yesterday, Sunday, to a letter from the East commenting on the new procedures, saying: “The customs were not officially informed of this.”
