I will go to the streets if the Constitutional Reform Council issue is not resolved in Parliament: Leader of the Opposition

The Jamaat-led 11-party alliance wants to resolve the issue of the Constitutional Reform Council by discussing it in the parliament. Opposition leader and Amir Shafiqur Rahman of Jamaat has announced a protest on the streets if there is no resolution in the parliament.

After the adjournment of the Parliament session today, the opposition party leader said these things to the journalists at the gate of the Parliament.

Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘We will issue the notice as per the Speaker’s request. He wants to solve it within the parliament. But if for some reason we do not get a normal solution inside the parliament, then we have to go to the streets. But we don’t want that, because since we have raised the issue, the speaker has asked to take notice, it can continue in that context.’

The Home Minister has proposed to discuss the matter in the working advisory committee meeting – the opposition leader said, ‘We don’t think it is a matter for working advisors. We think it is a matter for Parliament. Let it be resolved in the parliament.’

Regarding the government party’s statement about the lack of Constitutional Reform Council in the constitution, the opposition leader said, ‘There was no vote in the constitution in 2026. By order of the President. Even if one part of the order goes outside the constitution, he will obey it, if another part goes outside, he will not obey it, if he does not obey it, then he will not obey both. If accepted, both must be accepted.

The will of the people is the supreme constitution. Where the verdict was taken in the referendum. They (the government party) also agree on the referendum, we also agree. Our demand was that the referendum should be earlier, their demand was that the referendum should be held on the same day. Their demands have been implemented. They didn’t want a referendum, they didn’t say it. The proposal in favor of reform has won the referendum.

Do you believe that the government will accept your demands in the end – Shafiqur Rahman said in response to the journalist’s question, ‘We want to believe.’
