Starting famine in Gaza: The United Nations

The United Nations officially said the famine has begun in Gaza City and the surrounding areas. The company’s secretary general Antonio Guterres has called it “man -made disaster” and “the failure of humanity”. Integrated food security phase classification (IPC) working with the United Nations has said that more than 100,000 people are now starving and death in Gaza. The maximum step in the situation has reached Phase-1.

According to the IPC report, more than five million people in Gaza face ‘starvation, severe malnutrition and death’. Israel, however, rejected the report as “completely false” and denied the famine in Gaza. However, hundreds of humanitarian organizations, eyewitnesses and some allies, like the UK, have directly opposed the Israeli claim.

UN Humanitarian Assistance Head Tom Fletcher says the famine was completely stopped, but due to Israel’s “planned obstacles”, food items could not be reached in Palestine. The same is said by the UN Palestinian Refugee Organization (UNRWA), Philip Lazarini and UN Human Rights Chief Turk Turk.

The Gaza -run health ministry has said that at least 202 people have died in malnutrition since the beginning of the war, of which 12 children were children. The IPC has warned that if an emergency action is not taken, death will increase due to famine. The IPC has forecast that from mid-August to the end of September, the famine will spread from Al-Balah and Khan to Younis. During this period, about 100,000 people will face the IPC Phase-1.

Israel has recently started providing humanitarian assistance to the airspace. However, relief agencies have criticized Israel’s process as a “misleading strategy”. There is also concern over the safety of this relief program; This is because ordinary people were injured and killed from the palette on the ground. The UN has said that even if Israel allowed about 5 relief trucks to enter daily, the region requires 5 trucks supply daily.

Under this report Israel is preparing to launch a new military operation to occupy Gaza City. The Israeli military launched the operation after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2012. About 1,220 people were killed in the attack and 20 were held hostage. According to the Hamas -run Health Ministry data, at least 12,222 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israeli aggression since then.
