India has banned the import of jute and its related products from Bangladesh. This decision has been taken due to increasing tension between the two countries. According to reports, now jute products from Bangladesh will be able to come to India only through Nhawa Sheva port in Maharashtra.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), who works under the Ministry of Commerce, issued a notification in this regard on Friday. According to sources, this ban has been imposed on the import of jute from Bangladesh. Because from there, India's jute industry has been suffering for a long time due to the import of cheap and subsidized jute products.
In fact, under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA), jute products from Bangladesh are exempted from without duty in India. But the subsidy provided by the Government of Bangladesh and the use of incorrect methods by the exporters there, such as wrong labeling, misuse of technical discounts to avoid duty and wrong announcements for gaining more subsidy.
