Rafael Grosi, director general of the UN nuclear observation agency, has requested to visit Iran's nuclear installations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has indicated that Tehran may reject any request. He indicated in a post on social media X on Friday (June 23). British news agency Reuters reported.
In the post, he said, “(IAEA chief Rafael Grosi), the emphasis on the inspection of the bombing structures on the excuse of the so -called protection agreement is meaningless and perhaps motivated.”
Araghchi also said, “Iran reserves the right to take any steps necessary to protect its interests, people and sovereignty.”
The IAEA said in a statement earlier, “(Grosi) IAEA emphasized the need to continue the scrutiny of IAA inspectors in Iran, which is mandatory under Iran's signed extensive security agreement with the company.”
The Iranian parliament approved a bill on Wednesday, so that it was decided to suspend cooperation with the IAEA. The move came after the recent airstrike with Israel, where Israel claims they want to prevent Tehran from making nuclear weapons. The United States then attacked three Iranian nuclear establishments.
