Suppose you search Google or Facebook to find out about a product on your mobile phone. The work may be over. But since then, various advertisements for specific products have appeared on your Facebook news feed all day. Such a Facebook behavior but many are upset. And from this resentment, a British woman named Tania Okarol sued Meta, the main organization of Facebook.
Tania Okarl filed the case against Meta in 2022. In the case, he complained that Facebook was showing target advertisements using his personal information. It left him uncomfortable and disadvantaged.
Tania found out in 20 that she was pregnant. He did not tell anyone about it yet. But Tania noticed that Facebook has begun to show her feed pregnancy, baby pictures and parents' advertisements. This situation became extremely uncomfortable for him. He understands how much his personal information is being used.
Tania Okarol decided to take legal action against the advertisement. In court, he claimed that Facebook's target advertisement came under the UK Marketing Act. This allows users to object against the use of their information.
Meta claims that the ads shown on Facebook are not for a single user. Advertisements are given to a group of more than 5 people. So it cannot be considered directly as marketing. However, the data regulatory agency ICO Meter did not accept the statement.
A spokesman for the ICO said, 'The companies have to decide on the use of every user information.
It has to have the right to say “no” with it. ' Tania Okarol also said that Meta had finally agreed to stop the target advertisement by using her information. “Facebook will be used,” he said. Because, this is an important means of being connected with my family and friends. But I do not want to show me these ads based on my personal information. '
