During Ramadan, the demand for 12 to 5 types of products including rice, pulses, leaf, oil, oil, sugar, dates, some foreign fruits, onions, beef, milk, eggs, chickens are created. Unscrupulous traders take advantage of increased demand. Every year, they increase the price of some product by showing the supply crisis before fasting. This time, the government has taken various initiatives to prevent instability in the market of Ramadan. Products were already sold through tariffs, market monitoring and TCB in imports. Now some steps have been taken, including selling these subsidized products, increasing market monitoring. The consumer is not worried that the people concerned are hoping that the market will be under control.
Market analysts say the steps that the government has taken is traditional. There is nothing innovation in it. In addition, the system is inadequate compared to the need. This time, about 1 lakh families will not get the product of Ramadan including oil, sugar, pulses, cholas through TCB card. Therefore, the government has to increase the supply of these products. And there is also weakness in the supervision. Due to which the edible oil market is not yet normal. However, they expect the market to be normal in Ramadan this time if the monitoring is strengthened and the programs can be raised.
If all goes well, the month of Ramadan will begin from March 7. This time, the Ministry of Commerce has paid tariffs on the import of several products including rice, oil, sugar, dates, onion, potatoes, eggs to keep the market fixed during Ramadan. The import has increased a lot. Due to adequate supply in the market, the price of potatoes, onions, eggs, sugar and palm did not increase.
In addition to overseeing the market of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, the Ministry of Commerce has formed three parties to keep the price of the commodities stable in the markets of Dhaka metropolis. The team has started overseeing the market since last Tuesday. In addition, 5 teams will work regularly through the Department, but 5 teams will work during Ramadan.
When asked, the party leader of the monitoring team, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Jannatul Ferdous told today's newspaper, “We have seen the supply of all the products except edible oils in different markets all day. The prices of these products are the same. We have already reported the ministry about oil. Hopefully the action will be taken. '
Jannatul Ferdous said, “The import situation is good for the edible oil. We think there will be no problem in next Ramadan. '
Commerce Secretary (current responsibility) Abdur Rahim Khan is expected to be good in next Ramadan in the next Ramadan.
Stating the supervision of the matter yesterday, he said that necessary measures have been taken on the problems of the market and more will be taken. Initiatives will be taken to fulfill TCB's family card, solve the problem of hiring of the glacier, eliminate the crisis of soybean oil, increase the facilities for transporting TCB products to the hilly and remote areas.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has taken several initiatives considering the general consumers and low income people during Ramadan. As part of that initiative, the ministry has planned to sell at least 1,000 pieces of eggs, 4,000 liters of milk, 2,000 kg broiler chicken and 2 to two and a half thousand kg of beef every day. These products will be sold in 20 places in Dhaka city.
In addition, during Ramadan, the dressed broiler chicken will be sold at Tk 20 per kg, 5 rupees per liter of pasteur, at Tk 5 per liter and beef at Tk 5 per kg. Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar held a press conference on Monday that the places where the active participation of the common people was high during the July coup for the sale of these products would be given priority.
Meanwhile, from November 1, 2021, the sale of eggs at 4 points in 4 upazilas of eight divisions is underway at 5 points, which will also run in Ramadan, ministry officials said.
Food adviser Ali Imam Majumder said that 1 lakh tonnes of rice will be distributed in March and April through food -friendly programs. Rice will be given to 1 lakh families at the rate of Tk 5 per kg. Besides, during the Eid, 5 crore families will be given 5 kg rice for free.
Food Advisor Ali Imam Majumdar said the Deputy Commissioners have already been instructed to control the distribution of food at affordable prices and free prices during the holy Ramadan.
The food adviser said that about 1 lakh tonnes of food will be distributed in the month of Ramadan. In addition, 1 lakh tonnes of rice will be distributed in two months through TCB. Through the OMS, 4,000 tonnes will be distributed to another 1 lakh tonnes of rice. There will be 122 centers and 5 trucks in the Dhaka Metropolitan area, which will be monitored with the magistrates.
However, market analysts say such steps are much less than needed. In addition, there is a shortage of proper effective monitoring, they said. Besides, the sale of product subsidized products is very inadequate compared to demand. They say the government has not been able to make any change in the main place. There is no new step than the previous government. Again, the steps taken to sell products at subsidized prices are much less than needed. They are all in the city -centric. To implement the steps, the sale of subsidized products should be increased further.
Asked about the Consumers Association Vice -President SM Nazir Hossain said, “This year, the products that increase the demand for fasting are adequate reserves. Even the storage of the edible oil is sufficient. But the problem is the shortage of effective monitoring. During the fast, traders create artificial crisis and raise prices and make the market unstable. We hoped that the current government would take a look at the weak aspects of the previous government. But they could not go out of the traditional. '
Nazir Hossain said the problems were not solved in the oil market. Trade adviser repeatedly says that it will be fine within a week. But I am not watching the step to fix. When traders want, this problem will end. But then they will make extra profit.
Last year, during the fast, 1 crore families could buy the product through TCB card, but this time, 1 lakh card holders are getting. The remaining 1 lakh cards have been canceled. But this time, TCB is selling products for 4,000 people every day through 4 trucks in Dhaka and Chittagong.
