BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that there is no conflict between reforms and elections and both can go together. He said, 'Reforms will continue, elections will be held and the government that will come will take the reforms forward. We can make it clear on behalf of our party, we will take the necessary reforms forward.'
Mirza Fakhrul Islam said these things after paying respects at the tomb of Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the party, in Sherbangla Nagar of the capital on Sunday. BNP organized this event on the occasion of Ziaur Rahman's 89th birth anniversary.
When asked about the report of the Reform Commission, the Secretary General of BNP said, 'We do not want to comment on this right now. Because the full report has not yet reached us. The government has said and planned to discuss these reports with the political parties after receiving them. A decision will be made after that. Nothing will be accepted without consensus.'
Expressing the expectation on Ziaur Rahman's birthday, BNP Secretary General said, 'May the unity of all people be strengthened and the system should be established so that we can return to democracy through an election in a very short time.'
