A Colorado man has attacked a Pacific Islander for calling it 'Trump's America now'. According to a report by the American media CNN, the victim of the attack is a television journalist. He is a native of Detroit, Michigan.
The attacker's name is Patrick Thomas Egan (39). He was arrested from Grand Junction Railway on December 18.
According to court documents, on the day of the incident, the assailant, Thomas Egan, was following the car of Jaron Alex, a reporter for local TV channel KKCO, for about 40 miles. After reaching Grand Junction, Egan pulled up next to Alex's car.
According to the police investigation report, Egan asked Alex offensive questions after stopping the car. He asked, 'Are you an American citizen? This is Trump's America now. I am a naval officer. I have sworn to protect this country from people like you.'
But Alex had no reaction to Egan's use. He got down from the car and was entering his workplace. Then Egan chased him. He grabs Alex and asks to see his ID.
Witnesses said Egan tried to choke Alex by throwing him to the ground. At that time, the colleagues who were with him rushed and rescued Alex.
KKCO officials said Alex is a resident of Detroit. He went to Grand Junction to collect a news item.
Alex said that the attack was carried out on him because he was a resident of the Pacific Islands.
Later, after seeing the CCTV footage, the police arrested Patrick Egan. He has been charged with hate crime, willful assault and harassment. However, it will be known next Thursday whether a formal complaint will be filed against him. Egan's lawyer, Ruth Swift, had no comment.
KKCO Television Vice President and General Manager Stacey Stewart declined to comment beyond the station's report on the incident.
