File sharing between iPhone and Windows computer just got easier. It will be possible to share files directly from iPhone to Windows 11 or 10 computer through Microsoft's 'Phone Link' app and 'Link to Windows' app.
However, this new feature has been launched experimentally for Windows Insiders. Windows Insiders is a special platform for testing Microsoft software and features.
The file sharing process between iPhone and Windows computer has always been a bit complicated. Those who wanted to send files from a smartphone to a PC or from a PC to an iPhone had to send the file to their own email or use a third-party service like Dropbox or Google Drive.
Microsoft's 'Phone Link' app was launched as a desktop app for the first time in 2018. At that time it only allowed Android users to share files on Windows PC. Last year, Microsoft launched this app for iOS users through a smartphone app called Link to Windows. However, files cannot be exchanged with iPhone through Phone Link yet. It allows iPhone users to view their phone's incoming calls, messages and contacts on the computer.
However, this Microsoft feature works like Apple's AirDrop feature. It will show a notification in the corner of the computer screen that the PC has received a file.
Last October, Microsoft launched another feature for Android and Windows users. So now PC users can browse and manage their Android files in File Explorer using Windows 11's 'Cross Device Experience Host'. It does not require any cable connection. The Phone Link app is not a necessary part of this process.
According to Microsoft, this new feature cannot be used on all iPhone models. It can only be used on iPhones running iOS 16 or later and Windows 10 and 11 computers. Also, the phone link and link to Windows app are 1.24112 respectively. 89.0 and 1.24112. Need to update to version 73. This feature will be rolled out to iPhone users in the next few months.
Note that Apple's AirDrop feature can be used to quickly transfer files between an iPhone and a Mac computer. However, for iPhone users who use computers running on Windows operating systems, the file sharing process becomes quite complicated.
