India's Urbil made a new record with a 28-ball century

Urbil Patel has yet to wear the Indian jersey. Before him, he threw away the noise. Urbil smashed the record book by scoring a century off 28 balls.

He currently plays for Gujarat in India's domestic T20 League Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Patel now holds the record for India's fastest T20I century with a blistering century against Tripura at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore. It broke the record of Rishabh Pant. In 2018, he scored a 32-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The left-handed batsman Sebaar holds the recognized record for India's fastest T20 century for Delhi. Delhi won by 10 wickets with 50 balls in hand against Himachal Pradesh.

Despite breaking Pant's record after 6 years, Urbil could not claim the feat of the fastest century in the generally recognized T20. Estonia's Sahil Chauhan scored the fastest century in T20 by scoring a century off 27 balls. Chauhan scored a century against Cyprus in June this year. Urbil's 28-ball century is the second fastest in recognized T20Is.

Batting first at Indore's Emerald High School ground today, Tripura scored 155 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Gujarat scored 156 runs for 2 wickets in 10.2 overs. Urbil remained unbeaten by playing an innings of 113 runs in 35 balls with 12 sixes and 7 fours. He also got the man of the match award by scoring a century.

Don't make the mistake of thinking of 27th November as Urbil's 'lucky day'. He scored a 41-ball century for Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on 27 November 2023. That was the second fastest century by an Indian batsman in List A cricket. Yusuf Pathan set the record for the fastest century in India by reaching three figures in 40 balls.
