Reforms are meaningless without qualitative transition of politics: Tariq Rahman

Acting Chairman of BNP Tarek Rahman said that if one person starts the reform process, another one takes it forward. Because reform is an ongoing process. Traditional reforms are meaningless without a qualitative transition in politics. BNP feels that free, fair and impartial elections must be held within a reasonable time frame along with reforms.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the annual general meeting of the Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) at the Jatiya Press Club premises on Monday (November 25).

Tariq Rahman said, Awami League should be sent away through the legal battle as well as the verdict of the people's vote. The people will be able to expel mass murderers, murderers, robbers and their cronies from the political arena only if they get the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

Pointing out that BNP has no dispute with the interim government over the reform program, he said that those who want to create confusion among the people by asking such questions before the reform or before the election have different objectives. BNP thinks that the reform process is not the end.

He said, it is our duty to take measures so that the fugitive dictatorship and its henchmen cannot be rehabilitated in politics. That is why legal and political steps are needed. They need to be brought to justice.

Acting Chairman of BNP said that people get the opportunity to exercise their political rights through fair elections. Through the exercise of the right to vote, the ownership relationship of the state is created with the people.

All the pro-democracy forces should be careful, he said, Awami League and independence do not go together. Awami League and democracy are enemies of each other. On the other hand, democracy, freedom of speech, individual and press are safe for BNP. Writers, journalists, intellectuals or ordinary people can have disagreements on any issue. This is the beauty of democratic culture. In the last decade and a half, people have felt firsthand what can happen when dissent turns into enmity or blatant factionalism.

Tariq Rahman said, various conspiracies have already started to obstruct the ongoing journey of establishing our democracy. The ousted autocracy and their cronies are trying to create misunderstandings between pro-Bangladesh forces from inside and outside the country.

Organized by Dhaka Journalist Union Organizing Secretary Saeed Khan and presided over by Organization President Shahidul Islam, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, BNP Standing Committee Member A ZM Zahid Hossain, Jatiya Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, General Secretary attended the meeting. Ayub Bhuiyan, Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Quader Gani Chowdhury, General Secretary of Dhaka Journalist Union Khorshed Alam and others were present.
