Some people are trying to destroy the achievements of this government: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, 'certain individuals are trying to destroy the achievements of this government. I urge everyone to be careful about this.'

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while talking to reporters at his residence in Kalibari area of Thakurgaon on Wednesday morning.

BNP Secretary General said, 'We cannot afford another disaster at this moment. Because, we have the biggest danger on our head. But the leader of fascism is staying in India. But India continues to campaign against our country. We have no hesitation in saying that we should all be cautious at this time. If not, we will have to face a lot of danger as a nation.'

In response to a question, Mirza Fakhrul said, 'BNP's thinking is about the next election. The interim government has not given any roadmap for the elections so far. They formed a reform committee to reform the electoral system. They have written to us, seeking our opinion. We are working towards that goal. We will give our opinion soon.'

BNP Secretary General said, 'The work we are emphasizing at the moment, the most important thing that is needed in the current context of Bangladesh is a free, impartial and acceptable election. However, we have asked to create a level playing field to make the electoral system suitable for elections before fair elections. Reforms need to be done quickly. The elected government is very important to deal with the country's political crisis and economic crisis, we are saying that again and again.

Mirza Fakhrul said, 'national unity is the most necessary to protect this nation. The fascist Awami League has successfully divided the nation. We want a united nation by removing this division. Opinions may differ in a democratic society, in a democratic system – everyone will have different political opinions, differences but must be united on fundamental issues. There should be unity in the issues of freedom, democracy and fundamental rights of the people of the country. We tried to keep that unity and we succeeded. To speed up this movement, we have formed a simultaneous movement with 63 political parties.

This BNP leader said, 'As a nation, we should not be intolerant, we should be tolerant. A mess of 17 years, a garbage, it is not possible to remove it in 17 days, not even in 17 months. Those who are in charge of the government should give time for this. Not all reforms of the interim government are necessary. The elected parliament will do the reforms in the parliament. The main responsibility of this government will be to create a level playing field for elections. So that everyone can vote and everyone can participate – this is what they will do. And the rigging of the vote that Awami League had done by eliminating and installing neutral people. Neutralizing the judiciary, neutralizing the administration—this is their (government's) main task to make this election fair.'

Recently, Mirza Fakhrul said on the issue of appointment of advisors, “It is not customary to appoint advisors by talking to political parties. This is the exclusive jurisdiction of the Chief Counsel. He will take whomever is needed for the convenience of his work. However, the government should play a very careful role in this regard. Those whom the government will advise should not be controversial. They should focus on these things for their own benefit. We have made it very clear that it is our responsibility to make this government successful. Because we are partners in this movement, we don't want the movement to fail if they fail. Those who are enemies of the country, enemies of democracy – should not get the opportunity to make the government fail.'

Mirza Fakhrul said, 'We have said that an election should be held within a reasonable time. His roadmap should be given to the government. Besides, this government should also look at the economic aspect. I hope there are very qualified people in the government. The chief advisor is the most qualified person. I hope they will take whatever steps are necessary to strengthen the economy and bring down the prices of daily commodities.'

Thakurgaon District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Joint Secretary Paygam Ali, Municipal BNP President Shariful Islam and others were present.
