A Bangladeshi arrested in Malaysia for involvement in human trafficking

Malaysian anti-corruption agency Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a Bangladeshi for his involvement in human trafficking. He was arrested at 9pm local time on Monday (November 11). Malaysian media Malay Mail reported this news on Tuesday.

Allegedly against the Bangladeshi, he applied to the Malayan government for quota facilities related to the recruitment of foreign workers in 2023. In the application, he mentioned two projects for which he needed 600 foreign workers. He applied for permission to bring this number of workers to Malaysia on tax-free basis.

However, MACC later found out that the two projects mentioned in the application form are actually fake. In reality they do not exist.

According to Malaysian law, tax is required to hire foreign workers. According to this law, he had to pay 650,000 Ringgit as tax for hiring 600 foreign workers.

After the arrest, the Bangladeshi Datuk was taken to court for questioning. The judge granted him a 5-day remand for questioning till November 17. He is currently in jail.

MACC said in a statement that the arrested Bangladeshi is in his forties. He has been in Malaysia for a long time. Awarded the country's honorary 'Datuk' title.

This honorific title is given to the rich, elite and investors in the country. Therefore, his identity has been kept secret.
