No supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump have been arrested in Bangladesh and there has been no crackdown on them.
Dozens of activists, officials and members of the Awami League, accused of genocide, corruption and smuggling of billions of dollars in the country, have been arrested from Dhaka on Sunday (November 10) for planning sabotage activities in the capital.
According to press wing, Dhaka Metropolitan Police has issued a statement in this regard. They were carrying Donald Trump posters because fugitive Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina had ordered her supporters to carry them and use them as a shield against arrest, it said.
The detainees told the police that they did not follow US politics, but only carried Trump posters on Sheikh Hasina's orders.
Since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in an unprecedented revolution in August, some Indian newspapers have been spreading aggressive misinformation about the student-led uprising.
They have greatly exaggerated the alleged incidents of violence against minorities in the post-revolutionary days. They have similarly exaggerated the arrest of Awami League supporters today (Sunday).
