After the victory of the Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential election, the trend of hateful comments against women on social media has increased. 'Sharir my body, my choice' – this slogan for women's reproduction and freedom of dress is very popular all over the world. But after Trump's victory, the slogan is being used in reverse. This trend is especially noticeable among Trump fans. They are engaged in spreading hateful (sexual and insulting) comments against women on social media. They say, 'The body is yours, the choice is mine'.
A study by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a UK-based political think-tank or research organization, says that after Trump won by defeating the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the trend of 'hateful comments against women' on social media has increased alarmingly. This trend is especially high in Tik Tok.
'Your body, my choice', 'Your place is in the kitchen', 'Repeal the 19th Amendment'—these slogans are being used to spread hatred towards women in Tiktok. Experts say the trend has grown so much since Kamala lost—making it a threat to women.
Recently, a post on X (formerly Twitter) by a white activist named Nick Fuent received a lot of criticism. He wrote, 'The body is yours, the choice is mine, forever.' His post has been viewed 90 million times and has over 35,000 reposts.
According to the ISD, the incidence of hateful (sexual and abusive) comments against women increased by 4,600 percent over the two days of November 7 and 8. Women users of TikTok are also complaining about these issues more than ever.
After Trump's victory, the slogan was used to attack women, but in his case, the attack on women is not new. Earlier, Trump himself was criticized for making offensive comments about women. According to the CNN report, Trump also said, “Whether the women want it or not – he will protect them.”
