Working women more stressed than men: Survey

About half of working women feel stressed at work most of the day, according to Gallup, an international research and consulting firm. Gallup released the data last Wednesday after conducting four separate surveys of 20,000 adults. This number is one in four for men.

According to the Gallup report, the pressure of work in the workplace and the demands of women in the family are the main reasons for this problem. Working women aged mothers and guardians said many declined promotions due to personal or family responsibilities. Some have been promoted, but have been slow to take it. In addition, most working women admit that mothers are usually the first responders when there is a sudden need for childcare.

Seventeen percent of women surveyed by Gallup said they faced personal or family responsibilities more than once a day. On the other hand, this figure is 11 percent among men.

Gallup Managing Director Ilana Ron Levy said, 'There has been a lot of talk about ensuring the well-being of women and helping them succeed in the workplace. But at the same time we are seeing record levels of stress, anxiety and workplace burnout among women.'

But Karen Guggenheim, founder and CEO of the World Happiness Summit, says the problem can only be solved by changing workplace culture and prioritizing women's well-being.

He said, 'Why do we have to choose? Why are we creating an environment where people have to choose to be the best mother, partner, friend or daughter as well as being successful at work? Investing in women's welfare is not just good for business, it is a blueprint for social progress.'

The report also notes that working mothers are twice as likely as working fathers to consider downsizing or decide to quit their jobs because of childcare issues.

Meanwhile, the nationwide child care crisis has become more apparent in the weeks leading up to the start of President-elect Donald Trump's second administration. Trump says family child care is 'vital' in this country. He cited plans to cover the cost of child care reform by imposing higher taxes on imported goods.

But Vice President-elect J.D. Vance Biden criticized the procession, saying, 'The exorbitant cost of child care—for some families can be more than rent. But our previous process has encouraged children to be placed in care centers.'

Researchers say that if working women maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life, they will be more engaged at work and less likely to look for new jobs.
