In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, three people were killed when a car fell off a connecting roadless bridge following directions from Google Maps. After that incident, Google said on Tuesday that they are cooperating with the Indian authorities in the investigation of this accident. This information is known from the report of Indian media NDTV.
According to the local police, a car fell down from the bridge over the Ramganga river in Uttar Pradesh early Sunday morning. The three persons in the car were going to attend a wedding ceremony. The driver chose that road by following the directions of Google Maps. But eventually the road ends at an unfinished bridge.
The Indian news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that the driver could not understand whether there was a connecting road ahead because it was dark at night. At one point the car fell off the bridge. According to the PTI report, the police interrogated officials of the local public works department along with an official of Google Maps.
A Google spokesperson told AFP in an e-mail statement in the wake of the incident, 'Our sincere condolences go out to the families of the victims. We are working closely with the authorities and assisting with the investigation.'
A local police official said a part of the bridge was damaged in last year's floods. It is to be noted that two doctors died when their car fell into a ditch while following directions on Google Maps in the Periyar River in Kerala, exactly a year ago.
