Khamenei addressed students before the anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the US embassy in Tehran.
In his speech, he said, “Be it the Zionist regime or the United States, Iran will surely receive a severe response for what it is doing to the Iranian nation and resistance groups.”
Khamenei, 85, made the comments as Iranian officials escalated threats of another attack on Israel.
Earlier on October 26, Israel attacked Iranian military bases and other places. At least five people were killed.
However, the supreme leader did not say anything in detail about the time or scope of any specific attack.
