Bangladesh government has not taken any decision to ban International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISCON). A leader of West Bengal of ISKCON welcomed this position of Bangladesh. The leader expressed this position during a protest march organized to demand the release of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on charges of treason in Bangladesh in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources of Bangladesh recently said that there was no discussion in the advisory council regarding the banning of ISKCON. Earlier, a lawyer had filed a writ in court seeking a ban on ISKCON. After that, Rizwana Hasan said that.
Welcoming Rizwana Hasan's comments, ISKCON vice-president Radharaman Das said, 'It is a positive step. I heard about the possible sanctions from the Attorney General of the Government of Bangladesh. Now if the government says something like that, then we welcome it.'
Before this, Supreme Court Advocate Moniruzzaman filed a writ petition in the High Court demanding the banning of the collective ISKCON on November 27. Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury made this application in the high court bench. During the hearing of the application, the court summoned the Attorney General to hear the views of the state party. Later he was asked to give a report in this regard within a day.
Later, the Attorney General. Asaduzzaman told reporters that he told the court that it would not be right to take any decision on this matter now. The government is viewing the matter 'seriously'. Action has already started. Regarding ISKCON, he told the court whether this organization is registered, whether this organization will be banned, what legal action can be taken against this organization – the government will see everything and present it to the court.
