This blackout in Amritsar was part of a civil defense trial for the purpose of preparing for the emergency situation under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs across the country. In this trial, light is extinguished at various important places of the country.

The instruction was that there was no light so that the enemy could not understand that there was a city here. Similar blackouts have been celebrated in several states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. Lighting is closed in various cities including Barome, Galior, Surat, Shimla and Patna.
