The US recently allowed Ukraine to attack Russia with long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, provided by it. The UK has given similar permission. Kiev will be able to attack Russia with long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles provided by London. Shortly after giving permission, Kiev used these missiles to launch attacks inside Russia.
In response to Kiev's attack on Russia, Moscow also attacked Ukraine with long-range ballistic missiles for the first time in the history of war. Also attacked with new hypersonic missiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that his country has a large stockpile of new hypersonic missiles called the Orationik and that his country will continue to attack Ukraine with these missiles.
According to the report of the Russian press Pravda, the first deputy chairman of the international affairs committee of the State Duma of the country, Alexei Chepa, said, “We shoot down these (Ukrainian) missiles in the air.” But of course, if the attack continues, some of the missiles will reach the target. We will deal with this issue. We are fully aware of these missiles. We have the means to intercept these missiles and we will also hit them.'
“We will naturally change our (attack) tactics and we have already done that,” Chepa added. Now not only (Ukraine's) military installations, but also the country's infrastructure needs to be hit. That would limit opportunities for Kiev and make life much more complicated. We will use all our political efforts to stop these attacks inside Russia.'
The Russian lawmaker also said that the missiles Ukraine has are not the most powerful and most of them are outdated. Many missiles—including ATACMS—are now obsolete. Missiles supplied to Ukraine even come from old stockpiles of the US defense complex. He said that basically the United States is throwing out the old missiles from the warehouse and is going to take new orders.
Earlier, on November 17, US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory. According to the New York Times, the United States made this decision against the backdrop of Russia deploying North Korean troops to Ukraine.
On November 19, Ukraine launched an attack on Russia using US ATACMS missiles for the first time after US permission. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, six ATACMS missiles were fired by Kiev towards the Bryansk region. Then, on 20 November, the Ukrainian military fired at least 12 British Storm Shadow missiles into the Kursk region in another major missile attack.
