Investigators suspected Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla in a shooting incident in Milton, Canada last September. He is believed to have supplied the firearms to the assailants. In that case, Arshdeep was arrested on October 28 in Ontario, Canada.
On Sunday, Indian media including NDTV, Anandabazar reported that Arsh Dalla got bail within three weeks of his arrest. A Canadian court granted him bail.
Anandabazar reported that India had been pressuring Canada to bring back Arshdeep since his arrest. But since his bail was granted in the meantime, many feel that India's anxiety has increased.
The judge granted Dalla bail on $30,000 bond. The next hearing of this case will be on February 24 next year.
According to Indian central sources, the Indian government will not back down on Dalla's extradition even if bail is granted. A case related to the Indian government's extradition request was also registered in a Canadian court in Ontario last month.
Indian authorities accused Dalla of involvement in several terrorist acts. He was also declared 'Most Wanted' in India. But he could not be reached.
According to Indian intelligence sources, Dalla was living with his wife in Canada. Dalla was a follower of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in the country last year. Not only that, he also looked after Khalistani Tiger Force (KTF), a pro-Khalistan organization he created in Nijjar's absence.
Dalla was a resident of Moga region of Punjab, India. There he got involved in petty crimes. Later, he migrated to Canada in 2018 with the goal of becoming a 'gangster'. There he met Nijjar.
