Prime Minister Modi on Thursday participated in the India-ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. During this, Modi also addressed the India-ASEAN Summit. Speaking at the summit he said-
I believe that the 21st century is the century of India and ASEAN countries. Today, when there is conflict and tension in many parts of the world, the friendship, dialogue and cooperation between India and ASEAN is very important.
Apart from this, he said, “I had announced India's Act-East policy. In the last decade, this policy has given new energy, direction and momentum to the relations between India and ASEAN countries.”
Modi also announced to start direct flights between India and Brunei in Laos. PM Modi attended the India-ASEAN Summit for the 10th time in Laos.
Earlier, when he reached Laos, he was welcomed by Buddhist monks. Prime Minister Modi also saw the Ramayana of Laos in Vientiane. PM Modi will attend the East Asia Summit today. China, America and Russia will also participate in this conference.

Had bilateral talks with Japan and New Zealand
PM Modi held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba this evening in Vientiane. After the meeting, PM Modi posted on Instagram that he was happy to meet Japanese PM Ishiba. There were discussions between the two countries on increasing cooperation in semiconductor infrastructure, connectivity, defense and other areas.
After this, PM Modi held bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Modi also invited Christopher Luxon to visit India. During the meeting, issues like trade, investment, defence, dairy, space and tourism were discussed between the two.
After the meeting, New Zealand's PM Christopher said that he is a fan of India, it is a country which he loves very much.
After these meetings, Modi attended a gala dinner at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandon. During the dinner he formally met many leaders.

'There will be discussion on the issue of Myanmar and China'
The long-running civil war in Myanmar and regional tensions over the South China Sea may be discussed in the East Asia Summit to be held today. Both these issues remain major challenges for ASEAN countries.
In February 2021, the Myanmar army overthrew the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, about 6,000 people have been killed in Myanmar and more than 3 million have been displaced.
This year, there have been several clashes between China and the Philippines over border disputes in the South China Sea. Vietnam last week alleged that China attacked its fishermen in the disputed areas of the South China Sea.
China has also sent patrol ships to areas claimed by Indonesia and Malaysia.
In the footage, coast guard vessels of China and Philippines are seen colliding.
Modi government's 'Act East Policy' completes 10 years This year the Modi government's 'Act East Policy' is completing 10 years. In this respect also this tour becomes very important. 'Act East Policy' is an important part of India's diplomacy, which aims to strengthen relations with South East Asian countries.
PM Modi had announced this policy during the India ASEAN Summit in 2014. This policy is considered an upgraded version of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao's Look East Policy, which he launched in 1992.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited South Asian countries Brunei and Singapore in September. President Draupadi Murmu also visited Timor-Leste in August.
During his visit to Brunei, PM Modi met Sultan Bolkiah at his palace.
ASEAN is a group of 10 countries ASEAN was established in Bangkok in 1967. It is a regional organization of South-East Asian countries. Its full name is Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). It has a total of 10 member countries, which include Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos.
India had signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with ASEAN countries in 2022. Under this, work is done together to enhance defence, economic and technological interests. At the same time, India is strengthening relations with ASEAN countries to counter China in this region.
