Israel's heavy bombardment of Lebanon continues. Heavy airstrikes have continued for the third day in a row on the stronghold of the armed group Hezbollah near Beirut. At the same time, the Israeli forces also hit the neighboring countries in the north. As a result, ceasefire efforts show no significant signs of improvement. Diplomats reported this information on Thursday (November 15). British news agency Reuters reported this news.
Sources familiar with the damage said plumes of smoke could be seen rising into the sky over the suburb known as Dahiyeh. Five buildings were destroyed in the Israeli attack there.
“We were saying, 'God help us,'” a 33-year-old Lebanese woman named Ayat told Reuters.
The Israeli military said its warplanes were targeting weapons depots, military headquarters and other Hezbollah sites.
At least 20 people were killed in an Israeli strike in the eastern city of Baalbek, authorities and Lebanon's national news agency said. And 11 people were killed in the cities of southern Lebanon.
There is hope, however, as the US ambassador to Lebanon presented a draft cease-fire proposal to the speaker of the country's parliament, Nabih Berri, on Thursday. Two senior Lebanese political sources told Reuters this information. However, they did not give any details about this.
The draft is Washington's first written proposal to end the war between Israel and Hezbollah in at least several weeks, the sources said.
“This is a draft to receive observations from the Lebanese side,” a source told Reuters.
Asked about the proposal, a spokesman for the US Embassy in Beirut said, “Efforts are underway to reach a diplomatic agreement.”
