LDP Party President Shigeru Ishiba in Japan has taken responsibility for the defeat.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) coalition in Japan has not been able to get majority in the Parliament. LDP got only 191 seats and lost 65 seats. This is the worst result of the party in the last 15 years. LDP and its ally Komeito have together got 215 seats.
To run the government, the alliance will have to get 233 seats. Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba won the election for the post of party president last month, after which he became the Prime Minister of the country. After this Ishiba had announced to hold elections.
After the election results, the Japanese PM said that the election results have not been in his favor. The public has given a harsh verdict. They are politely accepting it, but at the moment they are not trying to add any more parties.
Before the elections, it was being claimed in the Japanese media that if LDP does not get majority, PM Ishiba may step down. If this had happened, he would have become the person who served as Prime Minister for the shortest period after the Second World War. However, Ishiba said he would remain in office.
The damage caused by the revelations of corruption This is the first time since 2009 that the LDP has not got a majority. According to BBC, the reason behind not achieving majority is that LDP leaders are surrounded in many scams. This is the reason why the popularity of LDP has continuously declined. Record number of women candidates won According to NHK News, this time women have succeeded in becoming MPs in Japan with a record number of votes. This time 73 women won in the 465-seat House. Only 45 women could win the election in 2021.
