Iran Never Plotted To Kill Trump: Pezeshkian

Iran's President Masoud Pezheshkian has claimed that Iran never plotted to kill US President-elect Donald Trump. In an interview with NBC News on Tuesday (January 14), Trump and the US government rejected these allegations. British news agency Reuters reported this.

Asked by NBC News whether Iran had a hand in killing Trump, Pezeshkian said, “Not at all.” We have never done this before and will never do it again.

Last November, the US Department of Justice filed a case against an Iranian man suspected of involvement in the alleged assassination plot against Trump. According to the complaint, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps ordered the killing. However, the law and order forces have demanded that the plan be thwarted before it gets a chance to be implemented. Last year, Trump himself has repeatedly alleged that Iran may have been involved in an attempt to assassinate him.

After winning the presidential election on November 5, Trump is returning to the White House next Monday. He was twice assassinated during the campaign. Security guards thwarted a possible gunman's attack on a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September. Earlier in July, Donald Trump was injured by gunshots fired at him at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Investigators have so far found no evidence of Iran's involvement in these incidents.

In addition, the US administration has accused Iran of interfering in US internal affairs through cyber activities. Tehran rejected them. Iran has countered, citing the 1953 coup against the then Iranian prime minister and the 2020 drone strike killing of Qasem Soleimani, saying Washington has been interfering in Tehran's internal affairs unduly for decades.
