Defense ministers of India and China will meet, both leaders will meet in Laos next week
Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will meet Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun on November 20. According to media reports, this meeting will take place at the ASEAN conference to be held in Laos next week. This will be the first ministerial-level meeting between the two countries after the disengagement between the two armies in eastern Ladakh last month and the Indian Army resuming patrolling in the Depsang area last week.
Defense ministers of both the countries are meeting for the first time after April 2023. Earlier, China's then Defense Minister Li Shangfu had come to Delhi for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Last month, PM Modi and President Xi Jinping met in Russia. After this this meeting will now take place.
In fact, there was tension between India and China over the border dispute in eastern Ladakh for four years. After two years of long negotiations, an agreement was reached that both the armies would retreat from the disputed points Depsang and Demchok.
PM Modi had a meeting with Jinping in BRICS summit
Bilateral talks took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan city of Russia after 5 years on Wednesday, October 23.
In the BRICS Summit 2024, PM Modi had a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit. In this meeting held between the two after 5 years, the border dispute was discussed and emphasis was laid on maintaining mutual cooperation and mutual trust.
In a 50 minute conversation, PM Modi had said-
We welcome the consensus that has been reached on the problems that have arisen on the border in the last 4 years. Maintaining peace on the border should be our priority. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the foundation of our relations.
Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meet in Laos before the agreement
Four months ago, an important meeting was held in Laos between India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi. In this, the India-China border dispute was discussed among the leaders. Jaishankar asked the Chinese Foreign Minister to respect LAC and the earlier agreements.
Jaishankar had said –
It is in the interest of both countries to stabilize relations. He told Wang Yi that the border dispute was the main reason for restoring India-China relations. He said that the situation on the border will be similar to that seen in our relations also.
There have been many disputes between India and China in the last several years.
