Lebanon's pro-Iranian armed group Hezbollah claimed it had carried out its first attack on the Ashdod naval base in southern Israel. At the same time, they attacked a military installation in Tel Aviv using advanced missiles and drones. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this news.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment. However, they said, in central and northern areas, especially around Tel Aviv, air strike warnings were heard.
The force also said some of the 55 missiles fired by Hezbollah in the north were intercepted. A total of 160 missiles from Lebanon hit Israel.
According to Israeli medical organizations, at least 11 people were injured in these attacks. One of them is in moderate to serious condition.
A day before the attack, an Israeli strike killed 29 people and wounded 66 in central Beirut. Lebanon's interim prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the attack as a blow to US-led ceasefire efforts. He called it a direct bloody message.
The European Union's (EU) top diplomat, Josep Borrell, called on Israel and Hezbollah to press for a negotiated solution. We see only one solution: an immediate ceasefire and full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, he said.
The EU has offered €200 million in aid to the Lebanese army to deploy additional troops in southern Lebanon. If the deal goes into effect, Hezbollah and Israeli forces will withdraw south of the Litani River in Lebanon in accordance with UN resolutions passed in the 2006 war. The area will be patrolled by the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers.
An Israeli attack in southern Lebanon's al-Amrieh region killed one soldier and wounded 18, the Lebanese army said. Some of them are seriously injured.
Lebanon's defense ministry said more than 40 soldiers had been killed so far in Israeli strikes. However, Israel has claimed that these attacks were accidental and that the Lebanese army was not the target of its operation.
According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, 3,500 people have been killed and 1.2 million displaced by Israel's attacks so far. On the other hand, 90 soldiers and more than 50 civilians were killed in northern Israel. About 60,000 people have been displaced from Israel's northern territories since October.
