Erosion has started in Ganga river in Kolkata. A part of Nimtala Ghat was washed away by the strong current of Ganga. Nearby is the tomb of poet Rabindranath Tagore. That part is also dangerous. Along with this, there is danger of Ganges erosion near Bagbazar, Kumortuli.
On Friday (November 1) night, a part of Nimtala ghat in North Kolkata was swept away by the strong current of the Ganges. The surrounding area is also about to collapse. If this erosion is not prevented, there may be problems in the future. Mainly the time of full tide is the most worrying. Because the current of the Ganga is high at this time. And at that time, the areas adjacent to the ghat are being washed away by the strong current of water.
Generally, river erosion is seen in parts of Murshidabad, Malda. But this time the river broke in Kolkata itself. Meanwhile, there have been reports of sediment falling in the Howrah side of the Ganges. And because of that, it is initially thought that erosion may be more on the opposite side.
Calcutta Mayor Firhad Hakim told the media that silt is falling in many places of Howrah. Erosion is taking place at the site of Millennium Park. Nimtala is collapsing near the ghat. Much of Kolkata is endangered today.
