Even if the late Indira Gandhi descends from heaven, it will not be possible to restore Article 370 of the Constitution, known as Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, said BJP Home Minister Amit Shah. He said this at an election rally in Sindhkheda of Maharashtra's Dhule district on Wednesday (November 13).
Under Article 370, Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir was granted special status with limited autonomy and a separate constitution. The 'special status' was revoked on August 5, 2019 when the Narendra Modi-led BJP government came to power.
After the Indian Congress and National Conference formed a government in Jammu and Kashmir after winning the elections, a bill on the return of 'Article 370' was raised in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
Just a day later, BJP leader Amit Shah made an explosive comment on the matter. In the election rally in Sindkheda, he said, 'Even if Indira Gandhi comes down from heaven, she cannot return Article 370.'
Addressing Congress leader and former Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, he said, 'Shindeji, are you afraid to go to Kashmir? I would say, now you can go to Kashmir with your grandchildren, there will be no danger.'
Amit Shah also said, 'During the 10-year regime of Sonia-Manmohan, militants from Pakistan used to bomb Kashmir. Now that day is gone.'
A few days ago, in another election rally in Maharashtra, Amit Shah said, 'They (Congress) want to return Article 370 to the Assembly. But even the four generations after Rahul Gandhi will not be able to bring it back. Prime Minister Modi has done a lot for the security of our country.'
Narendra Modi also criticized Congress's attempt to bring back Article 370 at an election rally in Pune a few days ago. He said, 'The proposal to return Article 370 is not the language of Congress, it is the language of Pakistan. The proposal to bring back Article 370 is a step to divide our country. Your servant Modi has crushed it.'
