India on Friday summoned the Canadian High Commission to lodge charges against Home Minister Amit Shah. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Saturday that we have called a representative of the Canadian High Commission and handed him the diplomatic note.
The note states that the Canadian minister's allegation against Amit Shah is 'baseless and absurd'. We oppose this in the strongest terms.
The spokesperson said Canadian officials deliberately made the allegations as part of a strategy to defame India and then leak it to the international media. Such irresponsible actions will have a serious impact on the relations between the two countries. Canada's Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison claimed in a parliamentary panel on Tuesday that Amit Shah had ordered the targeting of Sikh separatists in Canada.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal answered the questions of journalists on Friday.
Morrison admitted- had given information to the American newspaper Morrison had also admitted that it was he who had told the name of Amit Shah to the American newspaper Washington Post and given information related to the India-Canada meeting.
However, Morrison could not explain how he came to know that Amit Shah had ordered to target Khalistanis. This was the first time that a Canadian official openly took the name of an Indian government minister.
Earlier on October 16, Justin Trudeau had said before a commission that in September 2023 last year, when he had alleged the involvement of Indian agents in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, he had only intelligence information. There was no concrete evidence.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered on 18 June 2023. In September, the Canadian PM had accused India of this murder.
Washington Post had taken the name of the Home Minister On October 14, American media house Washington Post, quoting Canadian officials, had claimed that Home Minister Amit Shah and Indian intelligence agency RAW had jointly given permission to gather intelligence in Canada and attack Khalistani terrorists.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Canada had no immediate comment on the matter. However, the Indian government has refused to be involved in any way in this, terming all such previous allegations of Canada as baseless.
Morrison told why he chose Washington Post According to Canadian newspaper CBC News, David Morrison had come to testify before the Public Safety and National Security Committee on Tuesday. MP Raquel Dancho, associated with this committee, asked Morrison how this information reached the Washington Post?
On this Morrison said-
I deliberately chose The Washington Post. In fact, we wanted a newspaper that was international and could tell our (Canadian) story. For this I chose a journalist who had long experience in this matter and had written on this topic many times before.

The next day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian government agents of gathering intelligence, target killing, threatening Canadian citizens and indulging in violence.

The official said that some of these agents were threatened and pressurized into working with the Indian government. He said that the information collected by India is used to target South Asian people.
Police officials in Canada alleged the next day on October 16 that Khalistanis and people of South Asian origin were targeted by the Lawrence Group. Brigitte Gauvin, assistant commissioner at the RCMP, a Canadian police department, said the Indian government has used the Lawrence Group.
Canadian police had made many serious allegations against India in the press conference.
