Trudeau termed the media report accusing PM Modi as wrong. file-photo
Amidst the increasing tension with India, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has termed as completely wrong the media reports which alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was already aware of the conspiracy to murder Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau described his own intelligence officers as “criminals” for leaking the report.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Trudeau said that, unfortunately, we have seen that criminals who leak top secret information continue to present false stories. We conducted a national inquiry into foreign interference, which revealed that those who leaked information to the media were not only criminals but also untrustworthy.
Justin Trudeau was speaking to the media in Brampton, Canada on Friday. During which he termed the media report accusing PM Modi as wrong.
Trudeau's secret advisor said – we did not find any evidence
In a statement posted on a Canadian government website, Trudeau's secret adviser Nathalie Drouin said “We have found no evidence to suggest that PM Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval are linked to any criminal activity within Canada.” Were there, or did they have any prior knowledge about it? Whatever else is being said is mere speculation and wrong.
India termed Canadian newspaper's claim as absurd
A few days ago, a report in Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, quoting a Canadian intelligence officer, claimed that PM Modi, S Jaishankar and Ajit Doval already knew about the plan to assassinate Nijjar.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had rejected this report outright. He had said that such 'absurd' and ridiculous statements should be rejected in the manner they deserve. Such misrepresentations will further damage our already strained relations. The meeting of Modi and Trudeau at the G20 summit raised hopes
Before the report of the Canadian newspaper, a picture of PM Modi and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau together had appeared during the G20 Summit in Brazil, after which it was believed that this could be the beginning of melting the ice in the relations between the two countries.
The very next day of this meeting, the Trudeau government had increased the security checks of passengers coming to India. Because of this, passengers had to go through strict security checks at the airport. However, this decision was soon withdrawn.

Nijjar was murdered while leaving the Gurudwara.
On the evening of June 18, 2023, Nijjar was shot dead while leaving a Gurudwara in Surrey city. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau had accused the Indian government of involvement in Nijjar's murder, which India rejected.
After this, relations between the two countries became very tense. Foreign Minister Jaishankar had alleged that Canada gives visas to those who are wanted in India. He had said, 'People associated with organized crimes in Punjab are welcomed in Canada.'
