According to the report of news agency PTI, in this proposal there was a demand to remove the words secular (secular) and socialism (socialism) from the Constitution.

Court said- interim government should clear its stand

The court has asked the interim government to clarify its stand on the Attorney General's proposals. A bench of two judges of Dhaka High Court was hearing this entire matter. Many lawyers made themselves parties to hear this petition. Many of them were supporting the petition and some were opposing it.

Speaking on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the court during the hearing, Asajjaman said that he was certainly the undisputed leader of Bangladesh, but the Awami League (Sheikh Hasina's party) dragged him into politics for its own interests.

The then Attorney General had to resign after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in August. After this Asajjaman was made the Attorney General in the interim government.

What is the 15th amendment?

Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government passed the 15th constitutional amendment in 2011. Under this, large-scale changes were made in the Constitution. Under this, many provisions were restored, amended and removed. Some of the major provisions in this were-

Restoring the status of secular state-

Under this, the principle of secular state was restored in the country. It was removed by the military government of Ziaur Rahman in 1977. Bangladesh was declared an Islamic state in 1988 under the presidency of Hussain Mohammed. However, in 2010, the Supreme Court rejected the decision to create an Islamic state, calling it unconstitutional. Later, Sheikh Hasina government legalized it through the 15th Amendment 2011.

Rule of holding elections in caretaker government abolished

Through the 15th Amendment, the rule of forming a caretaker government to conduct elections in the country was abolished. Earlier, there was a rule of caretaker government to monitor the elections. Apart from this, this amendment also includes the provision of giving Mujibur Rahman the status of Father of the Nation and death penalty for gaining power through non-constitutional means.

During the hearing, the Attorney General criticized the provision for acquiring power through non-constitutional means. He said that this law limits democratic changes and also ignores the recent public anger.
