Five people were killed in a Hezbollah attack on Israel's northern border. Israel's Channel 12 reported on Thursday (October 31) that an Israeli farmer and four foreign workers were among the dead. Hezbollah said on Thursday that it launched multiple rocket and artillery attacks on Israeli forces near Khiyam in southern Lebanon. For four days, the conflict has been going on in this strategic mountain region.
Hezbollah wants to keep Israeli forces away from Khiyam, a source told Reuters in a statement. So that they cannot destroy the houses and buildings in that area. Meanwhile, Israel has been accused of causing extensive destruction in other cities along the border.
Hezbollah claims its fighters have not allowed Israel to fully occupy or control any village in southern Lebanon.
Israel, on the other hand, said it was carrying out limited ground operations and was trying to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure.
After this attack, preparations are underway for talks with US top officials in Israel. Officials are launching new diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
Israel warned residents of the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek for the second day in a row to evacuate the area. On Wednesday, heavy airstrikes were carried out on Hezbollah positions in Baalbek, which also houses a historic Roman temple.
The White House said on Wednesday that US national security official Brett McGurk will visit Israel on Thursday. He will be accompanied by Amos Hockstein, who brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. According to a US official, the visit will discuss Gaza, Lebanon, hostages, Iran and wider regional issues.
According to sources, the talks are discussing a 60-day ceasefire aimed at implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The proposal calls for the withdrawal of Hezbollah's armed presence south of the Litani River.
