Islamabad police arrested about 1000 leaders and activists of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party PTI. Inspector General of Capital Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said that a total of 954 protesters were arrested between last Sunday and Tuesday.
The government said the protesters were cleared early Wednesday morning.
Earlier, a police officer and four members of the paramilitary Rangers were killed in police clashes with protesters over the protest.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that law and order forces suppressed the protesters bravely.
