Party General Secretary Nashir Uddin Nashir has sent a statement to the media regarding the tearing of posters put up by Chhatra Dal on the occasion of Revolution and Solidarity Day in front of Dhaka University's (DU) Vijay Ekatar Hall gate. In the statement, he said, it is not appropriate to show disrespect by tearing the poster of November 7. November 7 is Bangladesh's independence-sovereignty protection day. Posta tearing is undemocratic behaviour, which is contrary to the spirit of the July-August mass upheaval.
November 7 is the day of transition from Bakshali fascism to democracy. Chetna is a historic revolutionary moment not only for BNP or Chhatra Dal but for every citizen who believes in the sovereignty of Bangladesh and opposes hegemony.
The independence of Bangladesh was saved that day by the patriotism of the revolutionary sepoys. The sepoys brought forward the popular general Ziaur Rahman as their leader that day. Ziaur Rahman's strong leadership saved Bangladesh as a nation that day. Ziaur Rahman's statesmanship laid the foundations of prosperous Bangladesh. Bangladesh would have become a failed and dysfunctional state if the November 7 revolution did not happen. Our freedom could be lost. As a result, November 7 is a glorious day in our national history.
In the statement, he also said that the Nationalist Chhatra Dal has put up posters on the campus on the occasion of November 7. The poster briefly describes the context and significance of 7 November. It was not a personal campaign or party program campaign. A campaign has been launched to commemorate a historic revolution in the nation.
You may have disagreements with Chhatra Dal, there may be criticism about the style of postering. This is important in a democratic society. It is not appropriate to show disrespect by tearing down the November 7 poster. You cannot create a 'mob' to tear down posters. Cannot incite mobs against Chhatra Dal workers. It is undemocratic behavior to corner a party by showing muscle, which is against the spirit of the July-August mass upheaval.
As a result, there will be a crack in the unprecedented national unity that has been created among all democracy-seeking students in July-August. We have to be vigilant, so that the vanquished evil forces do not gain any advantage by dividing us.
In the statement, he also said that all the student organizations involved in the mass uprising of July-August should move ahead with democratic values to maintain national unity. Absolute tolerance is the primary condition for practicing democracy. We request everyone to be patient.
