Apple, the top company in the technology world, has clarified its position on creating a search engine like Google. Last week in a federal court in Washington DC, Apple's senior vice president Eddie Cue said that Apple has no plans to create its own search engine at the moment.
Eddie Q highlighted some important reasons behind this decision. They are mentioned below-
1. Cost: Apple said building the search engine would cost 'billions of billions of dollars' and take 'many years'. This will result in reduced investment and staffing from other business aspects of the company. These businesses are very profitable for the company.
2. Impact of Artificial Intelligence: The search business has now become 'rapidly changing' and 'risky from an economic point of view'. Especially because of artificial intelligence (AI). Currently AI chatbots answer various questions quickly. So instead of searching for information in search engines, it asks these chatbots. Therefore, there is a fear that the use of search engines will decrease in the future. In such a context, creating a new search engine could be very risky for Apple.
3. Privacy and Advertising Business: Apple has always valued user privacy. Many people are interested in buying this company because of this feature. Apple says that running a successful search engine requires them to sell 'targeted advertising', which is not the company's 'core business' and is inconsistent with their 'longstanding privacy commitment'.
4. Lack of operational infrastructure: Apple lacks the 'specialized staff' and 'operational infrastructure' required to run a search engine business.
So it is very difficult for Apple to succeed in the competitive search engine market.
Apple's senior vice president Eddie Cue made the statement amid an ongoing investigation into the $20 billion deal between Google and Apple. A US court says the deal has been declared invalid. Through this agreement, Google is kept as the default search engine in Apple's Safari browser. The court also said that the deal creates a monopoly over Google's search business, which could have a negative impact on competition under US law.
Qiu said that in 2022, Google gave Apple about 20 billion dollars. If the deal is canceled, he said, “Apple will be disrupted in making the best products for its users.”
