VLAC will automatically create video subtitles with AI technology

Popular media player app VLC is using artificial intelligence or AI technology to automatically generate subtitles while watching videos. The app will create subtitles in multiple languages through this feature. As a result, there will be no problem even if the video does not have subtitles.

Videolan, the app's parent company, unveiled the feature at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a major technology conference that began on January 7. Company president Jean-Baptiste Kemp showed a video example to illustrate the new feature.

The feature will generate subtitles for moving videos using an open source AI model. The AI model will be used to transcribe what is being said in the video and then translate it into the selected language.

It will create subtitles locally on users PC. As a result, there is no need to rely on any third-party server and users can watch subtitles offline. This feature will support more than hundred languages.

If subtitles have not been added to the video before, separates the subtitles they need when watching the video '. Users have to download in srt' file format. However, to solve this problem, VLC takes the help of AI models.

VLC Chief Marketing Officer Natacha Holtzhauser said, 'This innovation is not just about subtitles; This is an important step towards inclusivity and enriching the global content consumption experience.

Holtzhauser also said that a VLC blog post will provide more details about the technology.

VLC can use OpenAI's Whisper technology to use this technology. It is an open source speech recognition tool. However, technology analysts have expressed doubts about how the AI models are trained. Additionally, AI-generated subtitles can sometimes provide incorrect or misleading information, which can create a worse experience than human-generated subtitles.

Videolan celebrated the milestone of 6 billion downloads this week. The company's president, Jean-Baptiste Kemp, boasted that even in this age of streaming services, the number of active users of VLC is increasing.

However, the company did not say when the AI feature of subtitles will be officially available in the app.

VLC Media Player is an open-source software used for video and audio playback. It can run on multiple platforms like Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. For example: VLC was first released in 2001. It then became one of the most popular media players in the world.
