Matter Threads is experimenting with AI-based features like Elon Musk's microblogging platform X. The feature will use AI to generate summaries of trending topics. Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained that the tool is an improved version of the Search and Trending Now features.
Currently, social media platforms are competing to incorporate AI technology into various features. For example, X recently launched the 'Stories on X' feature. It is managed by the company's AI chatbot Grok. The tool summarizes trending topics in X's Explore section. Especially for premium users. When the user taps on a trending post in the 'For You' tab. Grok AI then creates a quick summary, giving users a clear idea of the various discussions.
“Today we're starting to test some long-awaited features in Search and Trending Now,” Mosseri said of Threads' new features. The new search experience will allow users to search by date or find posts from a single account. AI-based summaries are also being shown where the Trending Now feature is available in the US. As a result, users will quickly know what people are discussing.'
The competition between Threads and X is intense. Threads now has 175 million active users. On the other hand X has approximately 60 crore users.
Threads is also rapidly rolling out other updates and features. For example: support for custom feeds and changes to the post algorithm in the For You tab. This change will result in more content from accounts that users follow. The feature was launched last Thursday.
Social network Threads this week introduced the ability to create custom feeds for users. This gives users more control over the type of content. In addition to these custom feeds, Threads also has a separate following feed. But the app appears in the 'Algorithmic for You' feed by default.
Clearly social media is now joining the AI battle. While some features help users quite a bit, many AI features are added to platforms just to stay on trend.
