As much as Artificial Intelligence (AI) will make human life easier, it is also a major threat to civilization. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said that the government is going to enact laws to deal with this challenge of technology, especially the adverse effects of AI. Apart from this, the state minister also said that new broadband policy will be formulated within this year to define 20 Mbps speed of internet as broadband and to make internet cheap and accessible.

The state minister said these things while addressing the chief guest at an event of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology on the occasion of the celebration of 'World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024' at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Friday (May 17). This year, for the first time in Bangladesh, the celebration of 'World Telecommunication and Information Society Day' has been organized with the public and private sector stakeholders of the telecommunication and ICT sector, including the Information Technology Department.

Participating in the event, Junaid Ahmed Palak said, “The father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, became a member of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) in 1973 and included Bangladesh in the world of information and communication technology by establishing a geo-satellite center in Betbunia despite standing on the ruins of war. .'

The state minister said, 'We would not have got the Bangladesh we have today if we had not taken a bold and visionary program like the Digital Bangladesh program in 2008 under the plan of Architect of Digital Bangladesh Sajib Wazed Joy.'

He said, 'Internet connection in the country through Visat, bringing the mobile phones to the common people by ending the monopoly business of mobile phones by granting licenses to three mobile companies and making computers easily available to the common people by withdrawing the VAT tax from computers in the fiscal year 1998-99 has been fulfilled by the vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The result of leadership.'

15 years ago, the export income in the IT sector was only 26 million dollars, which currently stands at 1.9 billion dollars, said the state minister. Mentioning that Bangladesh has reached a major milestone in the IT export sector, the State Minister said, '400 establishments in the IT sector are exporting Bangladesh digital services to 80 countries around the world.'

Earlier, the Minister of State released signature postage stamps on the occasion of 'World Telecommunication and Information Society Day' and distributed prizes among the winners of essay and debate competitions organized to celebrate the day. Later, in the presence of the state minister, the 'Active Network' memorandum was signed between the mobile operator Robi and Banglalink.

Samsul Arefin, Post and Telecommunication Department Additional Secretary AKM Amirul Islam, Chairman and CEO of Bangladesh Satellite Company Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud and Chairman of BTRC Engineer Md.
