Huawei's license agreement with Microsoft is ending this month. Huawei will not be able to make and sell PC based on the Windows operating system if the contract is not extended during this period. Because of this, Huawei may probably need to use the Open Source Linux operating system or the Harmony OS they created. Technology website Midriers said this.
Earlier, Huawei announced that they would not use Windows operating system on their PC in the future. Now various reports show that the company is going to launch a new PC in April, which will run with their own Harmony OS.
Harmony OS may be an effective solution for China. But without Windows, Huawei's laptops will not be as popular in Europe and the United States.
Richard Yu, Executive Director and Chairman of the Consumer Business Unit of Huawei, said that since the company is on the US Department of Commerce's antity list and American companies need export license to work with them, so it is unclear whether Huawei will be able to renew Windows license from Microsoft. Huawei's existing PCs will be the last Windows-based PC of the company if they do not get an export license from the Microsoft US Department of Commerce.
The company then may have to use Open Source Linux Distribution and their own Harmony OS, which is originally based on Open Source Android. Huawei recently announced their Harmony OS Next, which does not depend on Android.
The report also said that Huawei will launch a new 'AI PC' laptop in April, which will run on their own Kunpang CPU, Harmony OS. It will also contain various DIPSIC language model-based applications, which will establish the correctness of the name 'AI PC'. It is in line with the company's previous announcement, where it has been said that they have moved away from the use of Windows.
Huawei, on the other hand, will also unveil their first Linux-operated laptop 'MetBook D1 Linux Edition', which will maintain the existing hardware specification of the MetBook D1. But it will run on the Linux operating system instead of the Windows operating system.
Currently, Windows PC operating system is the largest partner in the market. Until February, the market share of Windows was 5.7 percent, the second position of Apple's McOS in the second position was about 5 percent and Linux shares were 5.7 percent. And the shares of the ChromeoS were 5.7 percent.
