Almost everyone enjoys holidays during the festive season or before the new year comes. During this time it is common to spend time with family and friends, relax and unwind from the heavy workload of the past year. Many companies give employees time off, so that they can rejuvenate physically and mentally. However, one company adopted the opposite policy, where all holidays were cancelled. Even if one is sick one cannot take leave.
A company has announced the cancellation of all types of employee leave from November 25 to December 31. Apart from canceling weekends, the company also canceled sick leave. However, seeing such strict instructions, there has been a storm of criticism on social media.
The reason for this directive, the company says, is that during this time its business activities increase significantly and it is necessary to ensure the presence of all the company's employees during the 'busiest days of the year'.
A notice published by the company said, 'Most holidays and sick leave will be cancelled. This decision has been taken to give full attention to the work of the employees and no relaxation. This rule is valid till the very end of the festival season.
An employee revealed such strict rules of the company on the social media Reddit. Soon after it was shared, the matter drew a lot of criticism on social media. A worker said 'Why do corporates think it's right? God forbid, if I fall ill.'
Meanwhile, some social media users have voiced their opinion against such a move, saying such a strict policy could harm the physical and mental health of employees. One man quipped, 'If you die, three days notice should be given to management.'
On the other hand, some social media users have shared their local business strategies. A social media user shared another company's story. He said the owner of the company who refused to pay any vacation during the summer. Employees in the company are overworked, underpaid and frequently quit their jobs. Then the owner complained, 'No one wants to work!'
On the other hand, a user shared her experience with a local coffee shop, which is run by two sisters. This coffee shop is closed for the entire month of January. However, employees are paid in full. It gives employees a chance to re-energize and appreciate their hard work.
Such a situation has led to widespread discussion on issues of worker rights and human rights. Work pressure and maintaining the right balance between personal and work life are gaining importance in these discussions.
