Telegram has announced the launch of a new verification feature to prevent the spread of fraud and false information. This will allow authorized third-party service providers to add additional verification icons to users' Telegram accounts and chats. Although Telegram has already introduced a verification process for popular individuals and organizations, third-party service providers can now provide additional verification icons. This icon will appear in front of the account or chat name and users can click on the profile to see more detailed information about the account.
But the third party verification checkmark is different from the checkmark provided by Telegram. Services that offer third-party verification to others must first verify themselves through Telegram. For this you have to apply to Telegram. This will ensure that only trusted organizations can provide additional verification.
Apart from the new verification option, Telegram has added new features such as collectible gifts, responses to service messages, additional message search filters and more.
According to Telegram, the first major update of 2025 was originally supposed to be released in the last days of 2024. However, it has been delayed due to 'negligence by Apple's review team'.
French authorities arrested Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in August last year. He was accused of creating opportunities for illegal activities on the platform. Telegram has since updated its privacy policy and disabled some features. It has also changed the way it talks about content control or moderation.
Durov said Telegram became profitable for the first time last year and the platform's annual revenue exceeded $1 billion. This income of the platform increases through various monetization features like: premium subscription, advertisement, Telegram stars and many more features.
