Meta changed the algorithm of X's (formerly Twitter) rival microblogging platform Threads. As a result, content from accounts that users follow will be shown more. The feature was launched last Thursday.
Threads already have a feed that only shows posts from accounts they follow. But the algorithm based feed is shown when users open the app.
In a post on Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said, 'We're revamping the rankings to prioritize content from people you follow. This means – 'You will see less posts of people you don't follow and more posts of people you follow.'
Content creators will be most affected by this update. Because algorithms want their posts to reach users who don't follow them. But the updated algorithm will make their posts more visible to their followers.
However, Mosseri did not clarify why the platform is bringing the change. As of July this year, Threads had over 175 million monthly active users. But like X, it also suffers from bot problems. Bots republish popular content on platforms like Threads and Twitter. Especially posts that get a lot of engagement. This is very annoying for users. With the latest algorithm update, users will see less posts from accounts they don't follow.
Social network Threads this week introduced the ability to create custom feeds for users. This gives users more control over the type of content. In addition to these custom feeds, Threads also has a separate following feed. However, the app appears in the Algorithmic For You feed by default.
Currently, many users are leaving X and moving to another microblogging platform, BlueSky. Its users have crossed more than 2 crores. Although Threads has 275 million monthly active users. According to market intelligence firm SimilarWeb, BlueSky is competing with Threads in terms of daily active users.
