Chairman of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Emdad-ul Bari said that the government is working to reduce the cost of internet for the convenience of users. He said, the BTRC is working on the fact that internet prices should be lower for the expansion of digital services.
He said this at a round table meeting on 'Importance of telecommunication network to face future challenges' at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday (November 4). Currently, the number of mobile internet users in the country is 12.5 crore.
In the meeting, Emdad-ul Bari said that many powers of BTRC have been reduced. They will be restored. Also, no more licenses will be issued in the future. Rather work will be done to give sustainable license. We will now move from voice friendly to data friendly.
He said, the mobile operators want to give all the towers to the companies. Again, if the operators want to take fiber services at an affordable price, they should also be careful.
Commenting that no one will be allowed to become a monster in the telecom sector, Bari said, Internet should be a fundamental right law today.
